No music or videos play in VRChat

Videos do not play in any of the worlds and music and sound does not play from the video. Restarting the client, restarting the game, verifying files and deleting VRChat cache has not fixed it.

This is very... very, VERY out of date. Closing!

Same issue for me, even after doing the VC Redist & youtube-dl.exe steps listed below

same issue for me.
Managed to fix it through the following attempts:
- installed latest VC Redist x64 and x86 from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
- restarted computer when asked by the installer
- tested the video player in my homeworld without success
- downloaded the latest youtube-dl.exe from https://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/download.html and replaced the one in the VRChat installationfolder (VRChat_Data\StreamingAssets)
- restarted the game and the player in my homeworld works now.
So if someone else who has this issue can please confirm if just updating your youtube-dl.exe is enough or if more steps are needed, this might allow the VRChat devs to push out a fix for this.
Edit: playing through Steam on a Windows 10 system
Lightning Test
I got mine fixed (after trying EVERY other fix, including looking for nonexistent Google certs, youtube-dl.exe update, reinstalls, cache clears, the works). Actual fix was from ghostdude00 a bit down on this thread. Just installing both x64
and x86
(64-bit and 32-bit) versions of Visual Studio C++ from here did the trick: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloadsx86: vc_redist.x86.exe
x64: vc_redist.x64.exe
Then restart VRChat (or better yet your whole machine), and try loading a YouTube URL in any of the easily searchable 'theater' Worlds to test.

tracked
This is a known bug that Support is tracking. There are many causes. To be specific, this is related to VRC_SyncVideoPlayer (SyncVideoStream has its own class of bugs, primarily related to running older versions of Windows)
Check out http://help.vrchat.com/knowledge_base/topics/video-players-arent-working for some basic troubleshooting steps.
Certificate check is unnecessary now, as the download application now ignores checking certificates.
If you have issues with this, please contact support@vrchat.com with your output logs. More information is necessary to help us track down this class of bugs.

Biggestbear Is this still an issue you're experiencing? Have you tried installing Visual Studio as suggested by others in this post?

Aev: I've personally fixed this issue by doing what the above post mentioned regarding deleting the expired certificate. The Reddit post was detailed in it's instructions and fixed it.

For me the final solution after trying everything said in this thread was to install Visual Studio 2010 x64 and x86.

Chel ★: No way, really? The distributions of the type games come with? Or the dev environment?
What lead you to try this?
Chel ★
owlboy: I mean the redistributable from microsoft downloads, I opened the game and while it was running I went to the streaming folder and ran the youtubedownloader.exe file, It prompted an error message, something MVS100.dll or something. I searched it in google and read it was a Visual Studio 2010 file. I downloaded the redistributables and voila ... it worked this time.
I'm using windows 10 1803
owlboy
Chel ★: Thanks for the details! This might help the devs fix it!

This problem is still going on after the new update. Videos in my Home instance are not working as well.
