[Feedback] Seperate 3.0 Menu binding from Gesture Toggle binding
complete
Jon~
The old functionality of the gesture toggle (with freezing the current gesture on toggle) was used by index users. The new menu is nice, but it would be a better experience if the old binding was left with its original functionality and a new binding is created for toggling the menu.

With the inclusion of the Binding config window in Settings, this is now fixed. Customize your bindings to your own liking!

Toggle Gesture should now be available as an action to bind in your SteamVR input configuration.
Not marking as complete, as this doesn't directly address the issue presented-- but it does give you the option to configure your bindings as you see fit in SteamVR.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community: what about for people with oculus or vive?
Tupper - VRChat Head of Community
jeff white: Both headsets have access to SteamVR Input bindings as long as you're using SteamVR.
We're investigating possible solutions for the Oculus client.

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community: I am not seeing that "Toggle Gesture" binding in the SteamVR binding settings in the Open-Beta branch. The only ones I see are "Toggle Left Gesture" and "Toggle Right Gesture" which effectively open the left and right Action menus.
Am I missing something here?

@hai-19: Nevermind, the binding is there, it works, but it's called "Left axis 2 Press". This action will toggle the Hands Gesture Lock.

Haï~: Thank you!

Haï~: Thank you so much for finding this. Hopefully the old gesture toggle left/right get renamed to action wheel left/right; and the Left Axis 2 Press is renamed to Gesture Toggle. DO you know if Right Axis 2 Press functions the same?

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community: Thank you, this is an acceptable workaround for now. Ideally I'd like it to be toggleable per-avatar, or even a setting I could change before uploading - use action menu vs just gestures toggle.

I would like to request that the 3.0 menu be a separate binding that can be configured in the SteamVR bindings, I personally dislike having it on the same button as the menu as I use that for other things and it's getting very confusing having to close the menus every time. Plus why not take advantage of the SteamVR bindings anyway?

personally, I would be happy if the "old binding" was moved away from the thumb stick button as it would turn on/off if playing in game worlds. Keep the functionality, but move it elsewhere?

You just pressthe button n swipe once, its not gone

MuffinOfGood: This is an unneeded increase in actions needed to do the same function (twofold at MINIMUM). I'm not saying the new functionality should be altered, just that the previous hotkey be retained. It will be incredibly cumbersome and frustrating to have to do both a button press AND a flick (which has the potential to be misalligned) within a split second.

MuffinOfGood: it also no longer locks the gesture like the previous functionality

It's nice that everyone can turn gestures off now, but I don't see the reason for stripping the old functionality of the Index control scheme completely. Just leave it as an unbound option in SteamVR control settings so that we can change it if we want to without messing with anyone who may prefer the new control scheme.
I personally have gesture toggling on pressing down the trackpad on my left controller. This is a completely unused area of the controller with both the new and old control schemes yet I cannot have the toggling bound to the trackpad anymore. This is something I'd really like to see changed, makes it much more of a hassle on Index in its current state.

I agree, I am an index user and I very much utilize locking a gesture with that button.

The simplest solution to this would be to have dedicated binding actions for both. The action menu could be left as the default, and the legacy toggle action could be left in for those who DO want to stick with it and can be assigned in the Steam Input settings.

also being able to lock a gesture to active like normal on the index is removed in this
