As mentioned, the menu render queue change addresses this problem. In addition, the menu selection can no longer be obstructed by other users.
We're aware that some shaders can render over the menu, which is a separate issue we're looking into.

This feature has been implimented now but in a different method: the menu at a higher render queue shows over everything

Foxx: no, I've seen some shaders render over the menu still.

Ayphverus A semi-recent change to VRChat made it so that the menu can no longer be obstructed. Do you consider that a fix for your suggestion, or are you specifically asking for personal space to be enabled?
Lil Fluff
Aev: Believe the op was asking for personal space to automatically toggle on when in menus, and toggle off again upon closing it. Or the equivalent functionality.
Darn Hyena
Lil Fluff: I mean.. it's basically the same end goal, no longer having your menu blocked by avatars
Lil Fluff
Darn Hyena: Yes, and I was reiterating such in a clear way for the mods/devs sake, but thank you for reminding everyone that we're all saying the same goddamn thing.

Lil Fluff: My goel is that players cant get up in my face. Access to my menu at all times is nice, but that doesnt stop fat garfields from blocking all of my vision.

I guess this could be marked as completed now with the latest menu changes?

a quick way to solve this issue would be to build the menu in a inverted normal cube with a skybox cubemap behind it. That way it would pass through everything it came in contact with and allow the user looking at it to see through anything it intersects, including but not limited to walls and geometry and other users. The menu should be something nobody can interact with but you no matter what.

okay so lets be honest not many people use the personal space, people like to give hugs dance, ext ext, but they hate when people get in there menu so when you open your menu you can have it where when its open it toggles that on if that makes since. and toggles off when the menu is closed
LethalDumpster
Know what would be nice about the personal space thing?
If instead of entire models disappearing there would be an option for only polygons within the bubble to go away from site.
Darn Hyena
Honestly, the "personal space" bubble effect should just be a automatic thing that turns on when you bring up menu instead of a toggle

This was submitted awhile back, but yes I do want to see this function.
