Age verification helps predators and is privacy nightmare?

- The age verified badge shows that you're an adult. On the other side, unverified user is showing that they're "potentially minor". Imagine, if you're a predator, why not targeting unverified users? why not pushing adults age gated instances, narrowing targets?
- Current Persona method isn't looking good for privacy reasons.
First, it says "Age Verification", but in the process, you have to submit your ID and face, which is obviously too much information. At this point, the verification here possibly is ID verification. Quite misleading.
Second, how do you know if your data is still stored in Persona? You hand your ID them blindly trust Persona, which you can never control once your data is breached from them.

- Age verification doesn't help predator in any way directly, age verification is mostly used to tell other user that said user is above the age of 18 years old. Not having said badge doesn't really mean you are possibly a minor if you do not have the badge. It's just a way for others to know that said user is "trustworthy".
- Age verified instance are a thing already and if you are age verified you will see these instances quite a lot. Not entirely sure on what change you'd like to see involving this aspect?
- Persona doesn't really seem to be a shady company at the moment, they are used by reddit, linkedin and other platform that are used by millions of users. Of course it is a privacy issue since you are giving your personal information to a company, but these information are deleted as soon your verification is completed. I've tried before to reapply for the age verification on an alt account and it wouldn't let me do it since I already did it in the past.
Persona when verifying your age deletes your information and generate a unique irreversible digital fingerprint (hash) your ID and selfie data. Your information are not kept raw on Persona website.

EDIT:don't read this too seriously, I think I wasn't thinking alright when I wrote it.
Thanks for the reply. You have very good points. And I believe I understand it. Tell me if I don't.
Here's my thought on your reply. I am being extreme on this.
- Yeah, not directly. Anything can help anything indirectly. It's not a problem that exists now, so it's ok to ignore for now. But in a extreme cases (such as mandatory verification) I think it will. And VRChat probably need to take some action about it. And I have a question, how does it help us being trustworthy?
- Nothing to say about it, I do think it's okay to have age gated instances, which help things somewhat manageable.
- Yeah, agreed, they don't look shady company now. For this topic, I feel I need to learn more about it to know A. why ID is needed to sent them and how it isn't ID verification at all, B. how I verify if they deleted it, or trust they did other than their promise (again, I am being extreme on it). Are there good resources to help understanding it?
Thanks for the link as well. I did a quick look at it. I'll pick up keywords and search more later.
