[1491] Vive Controllers: Physbone Pose W/Trigger Full Pull is Unintuitive
tracked
ZenithVal
Prior to SteamVR input 2.0 you'd use the grip buttons to pose Physbones on Vive. Now, it's part of the trigger and activated upon a full pull. When posing is triggered, you drop the physbone, and it's posed. (if it has that enabled) When I squeeze the trigger I expect to be more confident about holding onto something, not drop it.
An control other than the trigger we use to hold is necessary to pose, which grip fits for on the Vive. A binding for
Physbone pose
may be needed to facilitate this.Log In

Since it became impossible to Interact without fully pressing the trigger, I changed the threshold.
As a result, on my VIVE controller, I cannot even grab, let alone pose. Please bind Interact and PhysBone grabbing to the same action, rather than Interact and PhysBone posing, as it was before.
ZenithVal
100の人 The
grab
action is used to interact with physbones while the interact
action poses. ATM, you need to keep the grab button threshhold low while interact is high or else you'll immediately drop the physbone when you attempt to pick it up.wildduck00
Please provide a means to revert to the previous input method.
I didn't realize how stressful it would be to be forced to change the method and speed of operation that I have been accustomed to for several years.

If there's concerns about expanding the list of SteamVR actions further, it could be merged with the
Drop
Action & when bound, disable posing via interact

Prior to these needless changes, I could pull the trigger until it clicked and then hold it to grab a physbone and move it, my own or another person's. Then, if the physbone was poseable, I could click the grip buttons to reales it in whatever pose I had left it it (locking it's pose). I could then click my trigger on the physbone to release it's pose.
Now, after this horrible update, (besides the myriad of broken bindings and atrocious movement) I can no longer do any of this. Physbones without poseable checked, I cannot interact with at all. And physbones with poseable checked simply get pushed around and the randomly lock themselves in place. On other's they don't even see it, so it's local. On myself, I have to reset avatar or release poses to get them to return to their original spot.
I have tried many different bindings settings and it does not change this behavior. Please revert this update entirely for VIVE wand users or spot me the cash to buy new controllers with finger tracking that I don't like or want. It wasn't broke, and didn't need a fix. Forgive my frustrations. Thank you.
Update: I have found that it is a very VERY specific spot on my trigger pull before it clicks to be able to grab physbones. It's so tiny that I couldn't even find it originally. Is there a way to change it back to being a click?

No-Me Unfortunately, SteamVR input 2.0 isn't just a switch they can turn off for Vive controllers. In the meantime until we probably get a dedicated pose binding, you can mess with the grab & interact button binds on the trigger.
- The Grabbind specifies when you'll pick up a world prop or physone and has a default deadzone of 25%. You can lower this~ I've reduce it to 10%
- The Interactbind allows you to interact with world stuff but it also serves a dual purpose of triggering physbone pose when it's activated.
I've made a walkthrough for fixing various binding issues like movement in the VRC discord. Give it a go and see if it alleviates any if your issues. If not be sure to upvote related cannies or make new ones for new issues.

ZenithVal So I can no longer use the trigger click to both interact with a world object like a button and grab a physbone. The closest I could get it is Making my trigger click grab a physbone and grip release it, but now grip is interact instead of also being trigger click. "drop" seems to do nothing at all.
All I want is to be able to grab a world object, click a world button, or grab a physbone with the trigger click. None of this partial pull crap. My physical grip is weak and I cannot hold the trigger half way for very long.
Then I want to be able to lock a physbone and release a held object by clicking the grip buttons. Like I have been doing for the past 5 years before this update.
Update: After way messing around with bindings for awhile, I got it so that I can click the trigger to interact, and and partial pull will grab. I had managed to set it up the original way it had worked for 5+ years, but then the triggers would not interact with world objects. For a layman like me with hand issues, this has been a frustrating nightmare. I apologize for my frustrations, but I just want the way that worked back.

ZenithVal Put it in the Wiki, not in a discord server. Information needs to be searchable online.

It's so jank and unintuitive indeed, the vrc team must not have a vive wands to test with when they were working on this update

Agreed, pls fix this. give an option to enable legacy input for vive wands.

It's better than absolutly not being able to pose the physbone, but yeah it's bad. You want to grab a bone ? No instead you just pose it instantly because you grabbed it too hard.
What a dumb implementation ! The grip button posing the bone was already perfect, no need to make it worse.
ZenithVal
Nicalay2 I need to have a low trigger pull threshold for interaction to reduce tremor when messing with world items, making Physbones basically ungrabbable since it instantly tries to pose.
Nicalay2
ZenithVal Yeah you're not wrong.
But anyways, I downgraded my game until everything is fixed correctly, so I didn't really use the new garbage physbone pose thing.
