Any animation put onto an avatar and then edited to enabled any particle system, enable any mesh or trailrenderor, makes your avatar not show anything to friends / other players and only work locally.
TL;DR if i would give my model a naruto run animation, as run forward, and edit the animation to enable a particle system for trails it will only work locally, Please fix this.

Solution: If current HMD is Quest, if anything is plugged into the walking animation slots, don’t play them (or don’t play anything in the animation except the default armature bones). You didn’t have to block it EVERYWHERE...just a simple IF statement...

The problem also extends to sound effects, such as for custom walk animations.

This has been the case since the IK update. During the beta for that build we found custom walking animations were only updating locally. So generic animations or humanoid animations affecting game objects weren't updating for anyone else. I share your frustration though, It's yet another feature creators have lost. Final IK broken, walking animations broken, and soon now audio will be limited. Not to mention after nearly 2 years of playing this game there hasn't been any significant updates to the avatar sdk apart from a broken ik follower and avatar stats. If anything they need a better way to monetize the game so they can focus on delivering more content. These days I can't tell if it's utter incompetence or a lack of resources though I assume it's the latter with the fact that this is still a free game.

Graelyth: I strongly suspect that the change to Networked IK was driven by the decision to support Quest, which in turn was a decision most likely driven by Facebook paying them to do so. It's unfortunate the devs had not figured out a way to monetize the game prior to this change because there's zero chance they're going to roll it back now. They're probably contractually obligated to continue support for Quest, and even if they weren't if they dropped support next week they'd piss of a huge number of people who bought the Quest specifically for VRChat.

same model, only works locally feelsgoodman, its also a public avatar just for testing, made a dumb easy running animation, for testing purposes and its all just broken. Animation works fine locally, broken and not playing for any1 else.

LET'S MAKE IT WORSE! and i swear to god if i see one of the people from the vrchat discord message here saying it's a good thing, i'm going out of my way to completly kill this game once and for all. Dunno if you realize this shit you retarded ass devs, WE ANIMATORS AND CREATORS ARE THE ONLY THING KEEPING YOUR GAME ALIVE OTHER THEN ROLEPLAY, and let's be honest not even roleplay at this point is just fucking erp. Holy shit, so it's another thing i can scratch in my to do list for fun, it's getting less and less stuff we can create. They destroy more and more and never have a clue what they did.
You can point it out and as always the devs won't understand how to fix it!
Where is our local lagg fix we pointed out months ago with Raivo making an example Avatar for Tupper personally?
Where is our fixed joint fix? We are still FORCED to use an animator with Root motion enabled.
I could name more and more.
It's just getting more and more Bugs which they never fix for us creators.
WELL WELL WELL BETTER LIMIT CREATORS EVEN MORE WITH SHOWING ALL GAMEOBJECTS ON THE AVATAR TO MAKE PEOPLE ASSUME MORE AND MORE THINGS.
We were the Heroes of this game once, now we are being treated like trash.

There is some good stuff, good changes we got, i think we can play more than 3 audio sources at once now, which enables some cool stuff, i didn't test it yet, but if i want to do it it's possible.
But it just would be better to fix exisisting bugs.
The bug that just got named is really big.
Local Lagg on animations is still a thing, most of us Animators want to quit because of it. "Im creating something right now, if it laggs locally again i quit."
Please just don't focus on new UI Stuff, more limits for us or the website etc. Just fix things.
The two most important Animator groups that existed are slowly dying because we feel like it's not worth it anymore.

Floppiii: VRChat became a big home for me. I chill with normies, animators, clubbers and all sorts of people. I remember the first days, we were amazing ppl, we avoided that the game integrated particle limiter happened that would have ruined the game forever, we are here for almost 2 years, tryna lead the game trough the fair middle of normies and diehard animators. And so far it has been pretty disappointing, but it worked halfway.
Now we have to beg the devs for their mercy to fix this devastating issue and let us continue make unique and lovely moments and memories even better with our personal influence from animations and other creative additives.
