Uploading any avatar and putting a plus sign in its name, regardless of what avatar, will cause it to break. The preview image will become a red question mark on a white background, and the model itself will be represented as the red broken avatar model.

While I suspect this is probably to do with computer naming conventions, and it may not be fixable, a lot of confusion could be prevented by not letting people upload names with illegal characters.
