Broken audio as of 2017-12-14

The recent update seems to have completely broken the audio in the game. Audio sources are either extremely quiet (this was probably intended) or they play at max volume throughout their entire radius. Player microphone audio channels have been reversed and microphone volume doesn't drop off with distance. Additionally, the spatialization of player voices is completely screwed up. If you look dead on at a player you'll hear their voice through both left and right channels like you would expect. If they are even just a little bit to your side, however, you will only hear their voice through the opposite audio channel.

I noticed the sound breaks everytime I load into the game. All the menus now deafen me & actually hurt my ears because of this bug.

Agreed. The forced falloff is FAR too aggressive. Having sound on the player is now essentially pointless.

tupper: What are your thoughts on use cases and appropriate falloff distances for those use cases for avatar sounds?
tupper
owlboy: Things like a little music, sword "CLANG" effects, little props you pop out that make sounds, things like that? All of those are legit uses that could use a bit of range. Having a "falloff start" distance of 1m and a max range of 10m seems reasonable.

I have also experienced people talking about how they hear someone who is clearly on their left, comming from their right speaker and vice versa. I experienced it briefly myself as well.
I am on the Oculus Rift.

Kalista Phoenix: Every once in a while this happens to me or other people. Game restart is required to fix it, world changing or respawn does not fix it. It appears as if all players' voices are coming from other side and they are always as loud as if I was standing ~1m from them. Iam on HTC Vive.

Neitri: Restarting solves the symptoms, not the problem. It happens right away, and to shut down and resrtart VRchat... only for it to come right back a minute into the world, isn't a viable solution.

I've noticed the same issues. It's completely broken and disappointing to see this pushed live in this state. I don't know how VRchat went from map wide 2d sound issues to requiring players to stand on top of other players to hear whatever is now considered "max volume" but some reassessment is required here. I don't know what happen recently to get to this point but it seems super over kill. The seemly logermthmic fall off dropping the volume over 50% in a matter of 1.5 meters amazingly face palm material. It's not even reasonable. The user voice direction is also a problem. Map ONSP sounds are now 1000% louder as well. Like I said these changes needed a lot of work before they made it into a patch. I hope the quality control improves in future patches.
