Pressing the key combination "Ctrl+\" in the VRChat application will set you to a grey robot avatar locally, which will allow you to change to a different avatar.
If the above option doesn't work or you're unable to load into a world to reset your avatar for any reason, hold down both the Quick Menu buttons for the duration of loading a world and your avatar will be reset upon load-in. If you're using Desktop Mode, you can perform the same step by holding down \ or ESC key on your keyboard.
Additionally: if you're using a VRChat account, you can navigate to the VRChat website, go to the Avatars section, and click the button "Reset to Default Avatar". Here's a link: https://vrchat.com/home/avatars

The problem isn't the avatars. The problem is that all cursor movement logic (finding out if cursor is moving) is tied to the world size not menu size for some absolutely illogical reason. Just keep the cursor completely still on the quest to change avatars.

UPDATE: I figured out how to beat Giant Red Robot move completely forward get into a room with no roof LAY DOWN FLAT on the floor Clone any smaller avatar save that avatar to favorites Quest Users need to know to do this

Why? Would the developer of this game VR Chat allow an avatar that is 1.Too Big for any board. 2.Will have millions of quest maybe more players stuck in an avatar (The Giant Red Robot) they can not change out of no matter what they do. To the creator/developer of this game. It wouldn't be hard for you to delete this avatar. If us players need a view from above the entire board then Tinker Bell, a Luck Dragon, Anything would be better then The Giant Red Robot with it's head stuck in the trees that is impossible for Quest users to change out of and also impossible to enter any chatroom with. VR Chat is completely ruined for me and I barely got to play it. Nice Graphics. I shouldn't be able to even say I like Rec Room better then your game. But it is better because I can actually play in Rec Room. I can not even move in VR Chat because of that Giant Red Robot. Please delete it. It is more of a virus that ruins your entire game for every quest user that tries to clone it or use it then a useful practical avatar. It is even to big to socialize with the smaller avatars I know this because the other players using that Giant Red Robot had to bend all the way down just to hear me or talk to me. I am sure this avatar is gonna get a ton of complaints from every quest user that tries it and gets stuck in it. It's a major glitch please delete that avatar.
Observer.
Scott Whitney: to be fair they don't necessarily allow an avatar with bounds greater than 5m. This would be user malice or ignorance by disregarding the upload limits and guides resulting in the problem you are facing. Most creators should know that an avatar that is too small or too big will cause issues with usability of the game, and the SDK for uploads throws warnings and error if you exceed certain limits that vrchat recommends. You just can't trust people to follow these as they have been bypassing these restrictions for some time.
When it comes specifically to the size of the avatar there have been some issues with incorrect values being detected due to certain components so I think they had to limit the action taken by the performance system to stop avatars getting incorrectly blocked. At least in my opinion it's an unfortunate serious of events that has eventually lead to what seems to be a quest user, such as yourself, changing into an avatar that would cause issues.
I will also point out just if you are not aware that the Minimum Displayed Performance Rank is available to avoid even being able to see such an avatar that exceeds the recommended performance values. (It just won't block your own avatar if you manually clone it to use)

Workaround until this is fixed:
- Exit VRChat
- Log in to https://vrchat.com/home/
- Open the developer console (press Ctrl+Shift+i)
- Paste this into the developer console:
$.ajax({url:'/api/1/avatars/avtr_e88aa833-7856-4b42-bddf-dc568651a332/select',type:'PUT',success:console.log});
- Reopen VRChat. You should now have the "VRChat Default Bot" avatar.

Fusl: I would do this but so far it will not let me even log into VR Home on a diff comp like my laptop. What to do Should I try to log in with my Kano? or My Raspberry Pi mod 3 ? This plan was a NO GO ...Giant Red Robot crippled my account. I have several computers I tried this on.It wouldn't let me sign into my account on any of my computers. Or even send me a password recovery/account recovery.Tried on my laptop acer chrome book. Tried on my Raspberry Pi mod 3. And on my Kano. 3 different computers. The developer should just delete that Avatar. :(

I almost dismissed this post, until I read the comments about users on Quest having no form of access to an avatar reset function. On PC this problem is entirely trivial since you just reset using the keyboard, but if Quest hasn't any method of their own, then that's actually a legitimate enough problem to need some kind of fix.
In the mean time, to any Quest users suffering this issue, the best solution I can think of is to find/borrow a PC that you can temporarily install VR-Chat on, and then use the "CTRL + \" hotkey to reset your avatar to a default one. You could then uninstall the game from that PC and resume playing on your Quest.

Why does nobody at least skim the manual? There's a hot key for switching back to your default avatar. RTFM ffs.
Observer.
bit 01: okay pc user, where is the hotkey for quest users? This is exactly why this bug report exists, because quest users who are unable to play on a pc or maybe don't have a pc have no way of switching out.
Scott Whitney
Observer.: I have 3 other computers that aren't my Oculus Quest. Basically once I became Giant Red Robot it crippled my account. Not letting me log into my account on any of my computers and so far I am not seeing any hot keys in VR Chat on the Quest.I would do what you guys are saying but it doesn't let me log into VR Chat. Just like the change button in the Avatar section when you are Giant Red Robot just puts you stuck back in the game as Giant Red Robot and unable to move. Or change to a smaller avatar.
Observer.
Scott Whitney: Then your best bet is to have it checked out by vrchat support. It doesn't seem likely that you would be stopped from logging in but I agree with you that this is a problem specific to quest users and thus you may require moderation assistance to gain control due to quest users have limited available options and you appear to be having other issues.

I had a friend who was stuck in an avatar because it was too big. They managed to hit a avatar pedi stool tho and changed. You could still try the same I guess.

CTRL + / is your friend.
BorkBork~
start game in desktop mode, not vr, maybe can select avatars in menu then.
Or move your vr controllers very close to the avatars in menu while clicking repeatedly, I was able to change out of giant avatars this way.
Scott Whitney
BorkBork~: Desk Top mode ? Are you using a PC I only own the Oculus Quest will try the controller thing you said
Observer.
BorkBork~: if you are playing on PC, should be both desktop and vr, you can just use the keyboard shortcut [ Control + \ ] to switch you into the default robot if you get stuck in an avatar.
