On player join, massive lag spike

Since an update somewhere around September, I've noticed significant lag spikes when people join my world. (everyone freezes, audio cannot be heard, takes a minute to resolve) This was not an issue before this unknown update. The world in question is my Dangan-Mafia map (an SDK2 map). I am not aware if it is present in other maps of a similar type, but I wouldn't surprised if this is an SDK2 issue of some kind.

Thank you for your report! We've made continuous performance improvements to VRChat, which should make lag spikes less likely to occur.
If you encounter issues like this, please provide a world or avatar ID and create a new post or support ticket.
Some worlds or avatars have as optimization issues, which we could look into (see Kilerbomb't comment)

And it got worse during an update at the end of November nd

Judging by what you and others who replied are saying, what you are experiencing is very likely audio decompression when loading audio assets on avatars. I wrote a (probably over-detailed) post about it not too long ago. To summarize, Unity's default behavior of loading audio assets is to decompress them on the main thread (the thread the game logic runs on) before sending them to memory. While this is happening, everything else on that thread must wait for the decompression to finish. Changing a single setting in the import settings of audio assets fixes this.

A bunch of friends joined a map at the same time the other night and holy hell the game slowed to a crawl.
It's not consistent though, seems to happen specifically in worlds with a lot of pickups, probably a syncing issue

After the latest update (2020.3.3p2, build 996.) i have this issue, and for me its making the game unplayable on any public map, because if i join somewhere, my ping goes higher than 1000, youtube videos stop loading, and then my internet just dies, then the game kick me with the reason you are timed out. If i not getting kicked, then if someone change avatar or join, my game just hang while the avatar is not loaded.(for me its net-lag not FPS-lag, disabling avatars in the security tag helps)

I've seen this happening universally, on avatar load. I've heard it from others as well. It was immediately after an update, though I don't remember the date.
