[PC] Repeated crash during world entry — Animator.Update(0), UnityPlayer.dll +0xb11b2d
available in future release

VRChat intermittently crashes to desktop without an error dialog when joining a populated instance of Mafia Classic.
World ID: wrld_80d828d2-ae5f-4fa5-aaaa-072b80096995
Other players have also reported crashes when entering this world, although their crash dumps have not been analyzed.
REPRODUCTION
- Join a populated Mafia Classic instance.
- The world scene loads successfully.
- Player/avatar initialization begins.
- VRChat sometimes unexpectedly closes.
Frequency: intermittent. Both empty and populated instances have also been entered successfully.
EXPECTED
The client completes initialization and enters the world.
ACTUAL
The client crashes to desktop without an error dialog.
CRASH EVIDENCE
I captured two crashes on October 18 and October 20, 2026.
Offline analysis found the same complete 22-frame native call stack in both dumps:
- UnityPlayer.dll version: 6000.0.67.6863
- Exception: 0xc0000005
- Fault offset: 0xb11b2d
- Invalid read from address 0x58, with R13 = 0
- Call chain enters UnityEngine.Animator::Update_Injected with zero delta time: Animator.Update(0).
The final log messages in both cases concern remote avatar limb initialization. No Udon runtime exception was recorded during the failed entry.
The specific Animator, avatar or world object responsible has NOT been identified. The last avatar mentioned in the log is not a confirmed cause.
ENVIRONMENT
- VRChat 2026.3.3p2-1921-15c4a824b2-Release
- Windows 11, build 26200
- Steam installation, Direct3D 11
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, 8 GB VRAM
- 32 GB RAM
Crash dump, full logs and detailed analysis were submitted privately through support ticket #745343.
Could you investigate the native Animator.Update(0) crash path and advise what additional diagnostic information would help identify the trigger?

PC client (Unity 6, build 1921) crashes in UnityPlayer.dll (c0000005 @ 0xb11b2d) while joining a busy world
messeth
Since 2026.3.3 moved the PC client to Unity 6, players crash to desktop while loading into our world, After Dark Club (wrld_3edb543b-bd8e-4ae0-8592-93678bc62456). It happens several times every busy night. Players' logs from before the switch show none of these crashes.
CRASH SIGNATURE
(Windows Reliability Monitor on an affected PC; no Unity "Crashes" folder was written)
- APPCRASH, VRChat.exe 6000.0.67.6863
- Fault module: UnityPlayer.dll 6000.0.67.6863 (timestamp 6ac55b52)
- Exception code: c0000005 (access violation)
- Exception offset: 0x0000000000b11b2d
- Bucket ID: 766c1fa51efc85364d935189e381e1a7
- Client: 2026.3.3p2 build 1921, Unity 6000.0.67f1-DWR, Windows 11 26200, RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, 32 GB RAM, SteamVR
WHEN IT HAPPENS
(the victim's own output log; it ends with no exception)
- "Entering Room: After Dark Club" at T+0.
- "Room instantiate took 4.95s", then "Spent 8.77s waiting to discover master client". Mirror shader warm-up ran during that time.
- At T+10, "Spawning players" -> "Finished spawning players" (16 players). Avatars initialise, and the world's Udon Start() methods run in the same second.
- The log ends at T+11, mid-load, after "Initialize Limb Avatar VRCPlayer[Remote] 1". The local OnPlayerJoined never fired. No video player had opened a URL.
- Other players see "Player X did not receive initial data in time, forcing spawn" at about +15 s, then the player leaves at +25 to 40 s.
HOW OFTEN
(counted from the master's logs; "crash-retry" = a player who leaves within 45 s of joining twice within 10 minutes)
- 2026-09-28, Unity 2022.3.22: 384 joins, 2% left within 45 s, 0 crash-retries
- 2026-10-02 to 04, Unity 2022.3.22: 483 joins, 3% left within 45 s, 0 crash-retries
- 2026-10-12, Unity 6000.0.67: 107 joins, 16% left within 45 s, 4 crash-retries
- 2026-10-16, Unity 6000.0.67: 204 joins, 11% left within 45 s, 9 crash-retries
- 2026-10-17, Unity 6000.0.67: 171 joins, 11% left within 45 s, 4 crash-retries
- 2026-10-20 to 21, Unity 6000.0.67: 224 joins, 23% left within 45 s, 9 crash-retries
WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT IT
- It scales with the instance's crowd. Short stays were 8-9% at 5-14 players, 17-19% at 15-24, and 29% at 25+. Later in a long night, most joiners take more than 15 s to load.
- It is not one PC or one save. The same player crashed 11 s into a rejoin after playing 5.5 hours in the same instance that night. Others crash 2-4 times in a row, then get in.
- It is not the video player. No AVPro URL was opened before the crash; our stream now starts 15 s after the join.
- We already lightened the join. We reduced per-player networked objects from 66 to 6 and delayed the stream. The crash rate did not change.
- It is PC only, as far as we can tell. We have no reports from Quest.
WHAT WOULD HELP
- Symbolicating UnityPlayer.dll 6000.0.67.6863 + 0xb11b2d to name the crashing function, so we know what to avoid in the world.
- Whether this bucket appears in your crash telemetry for other large worlds.

Just wanted to chime in and say this is a duplicate case, experiencing the same thing as you!

Worlds Randomly Crash on "Joining" - Group Instances?
DragonAsh
When loading into an existing group instance - there is a chance that VRC will crash right to desktop with no error code.
You can easily repeat it with the same group instance but when you make your own instance, it works fine.

I've been experiencing this issue as well, along with several of my friends. We regularly hang out in Test Pilots, but what's strange is that the crashes seem to happen specifically in instances hosted by our group, Tuff Times. We can join other groups' instances and public instances of the same world without any problems. It's really strange, and we're struggling to figure out what's causing it.

The Great Pug world (
wrld_6caf5200-70e1-46c2-b043-e3c4abe69e0f
) hosted by Pug Dwellers group was affected by this since 2026-10-13, no known cause. I've suggested Marlon to submit a crash dump too.The crashes I experienced in The Great Pug fit the description of the above, while analyzing the output logs from my computer. The client crash happens while loading into the world before seeing the world, with logs indicating several avatar animators being loaded at once. It didn't seem to be any specific avatar that caused it with any consistency, and it wasn't anything like an EasyAntiCheat closing the client on an audio codec library or similar.
