As a desktop user, I want to be able to type chat using the keyboard, so I have an option other than trying to 'handwrite' using a mouse and pen.

Details:

As a desktop user (can't afford the VR set yet :< ), I am often frustrated because there is no way to send "text/chat" into the game other than the fairly clunky "handwriting" (which I know is probably awesome in VR, but I'm not there yet!!).

Since I know the notion of adding chat into the already busy environment is probably not attractive to the motivation (VR), it remains that users waiting for cost-accessibility to the tech need a way to communicate textually that isn't hampered by the reality of legacy technology (i.e., keyboard).

As an example - a 'chat HUD' that could billboard directly in front of user with the text being input (a la placard, perhaps).

I'm including a rough representation of the idea as imagined in the attached image.

This would also be a nice alternative for those who do not have voice chat available or who cannot speak.
