Feature Proposal: Setting World Capacity for Group Instances
SarynJP
Current Issue and Reason for Suggestion:
I am part of a VRChat community that hosts dozens of events every week, with a team of over 30 event hosts. Unfortunately, not all of our hosts have the same PC performance to manage the full world capacity set by world creators. Most of the time, event hosts can comfortably handle around 30 event attendees, but when it comes to 40 or more, it becomes challenging for the hardware of some of our hosts.
We would like to start using group instances instead of regular instances so we can benefit from invites being auto-managed by VRChat and take advantage of the Queue system. Currently, we can't because group instances will always fill up to the MAX capacity, and the Queue system is also based on the MAX capacity. They aren't limited by the SOFT capacity, which is often the practical maximum capacity for hosting events in general.
Proposed Solution:
Add an option to specify the SOFT and MAX capacity for a specific group instance when it's created. This will allow groups and event venues to have better control over their crowd and how many people can be invited, instead of being limited to the world's default settings.
Being able to limit the world capacity within the group instance will also allow event hosts to avoid friending every attendee, especially for private events. Right now, many of our hosts have a lot of friends who are simply event attendees. We would like to switch to group instances to avoid this friend list clutter, but we can't due to individual PC limitations.
Results / Advantages:
No Friend List Clutter: Hosts won't need to friend every single one of our event attendees. As people come and go, we sometimes end up friending hundreds of players who only join an event once. Retroactively removing players from the friend list when they leave the community is currently very difficult.
Easier Event Access: Thanks to group instances being listed in VRChat, it will be far easier for community members to join events when they happen, in addition to being able to use group announcements.
Better Crowd Control: It will make it easier for each event host to regulate how many event participants they can sustain with their current hardware limitations. This is also useful for special private events that have only a limited number of open slots.
Group Queue System: We'll be able to make use of the Queue System for group instances if this becomes possible. It's an excellent feature, but unfortunately, according to documentation, it will only be triggered at the MAX capacity, not the SOFT capacity. This means hosts would be forced to let potentially 80 users into an instance before the Queue system even triggers (in most worlds).
That's all for my suggestion. Thank you.

This does not need to be lImited to group ondysnces, but insyance creation on general

Shadowriver It could yes, as long as groups have it, I'll be happy, if it's implemented in general for all instance types, then that's a nice bonus!

What I got out of this is that you want a group instance host to limit the amount of people who can join even if the world's limit is 40+?

awesomeplayer Exactly, altho this won't be tied to the host, just the instance itself to have a customizable max capacity. if a world max is 40, then the Queue system for group instance will never trigger until there is 40 players in the instance, which starts to be a lot in general, in some world, the max is 80, which limits a lot the possibility to even use that nice feature.

Honestly this will definitely help a lot in creating events for groups!

Not something I need, but def something the community as a whole needs <3

I absolutely agree with this. I've only personally been able to see the group queue feature used once in the months since it was added, and the world was so full that my computer was really struggling, even with several avatar restrictions set on my end. As I sat there I pretty much just saw people freezing, dropping and being replaced, which is not a fun experience for anyone. If they had been able to drop the capacity, the queue wouldn't have to turn over as fast and the people who did get in would better enjoy the event.
