Feedback and Suggestions About Avatar Scaling

The most recent beta update for VRChat has patched out the required mechanics for avatar scalers such as the Jackal Scaling System and Mags Scale Adjuster. For those who aren't aware of them, these systems would let users go to sizes way beyond what is currently officially possible in VRChat. And as the feedback from my previous canny post has shown, to say that a lot of people are greatly affected and devastated by this would be an understatement. VRChat is a home for a lot of us, a place where we can be ourselves. A place where we can express our unique interests in extreme sizes, as of right now, there is no other place quite like it. However without any compromises from VRChat, this is going to be severely limited. I won't go too much into how truly devastating this change is for a lot of us, as I think all the comments on my original canny post speak for themselves. I truly hope the team will see the chaos and damage this change alone is doing to the enjoyment of VRChat for many and is willing to help resolve at least some of the issues we have with the current implementation of avatar scaling.
So I would like to share my feedback and suggestions for how I would like to see VRChat move forward in this regard.
I would like to start by saying that the existing underlying system is honestly a really good foundation; it definitely can be made into something truly special. But as of right now, the tools for creators to fully utilise this system are either lacking or just non existent.
- Avatars need to get the same level of possible control that worlds do. What worlds have been able to do with the VRChat scaling system shows there is true potential here; the amount of creative games and hangout worlds that have been made with it shows what could be possible. But now it's time for avatars to be able to join the fun. There are countless worlds that do not include any scaling system, but that truly are beautiful and amazing to experience at all the different sizes the Jackal and Mag scalers provided.
If avatars were able to tie into the existing scaling foundations, then ultimately worlds would still be able to have the final say in a player's size. If the world wants to outright limit avatar scaling, then the already existing systems could easily block that, or if the world opts for a Udon based approach for enforcing the avatar size, then having avatars be able to fully tie into the existing systems is going to create a way more seamless experience for everyone involved.
My suggestion in this regard would be to let avatars tie into the scaling system through the animator. Similar to how we have the parameter driver behaviour in animators, we should have an avatar scaling behaviour too. The benefit of doing it this way is that avatar scaling shouldn't be a one size fits all (pun intended). But by giving us the basic controls and tools needed, avatar and asset creators like me can make the experiences people want. This means VRChat wouldn't need to reinvent the already existing scale slider that goes to 5 meters either, as avatar and asset creators can figure out the best way to deal with the menus for their specific use case and implementation themselves. Giving the community the tools they need will allow for creativity to pave the way. As an example, take the amazing SizeOSC and some of its addons. One of the addons adds a growth ray that lets users who have the SizeOSC system on their avatar be scaled by other players. The possibilities are honestly endless if avatars are able to get the basic controls needed.
2, 3. Due to the length limitations on a canny post, I will write my other points in the comments as I think they deserve to be written out in full.
I hope the VRChat team sees that the demand is definitely there for a more expansive scaling system and feature set. I love spending time on VRChat hanging out with the weird group of friends I have. I know the size community is not a core part of the player base, but it definitely is a very passionate one. I think I speak for most when I say that I truly wish for VRChat to be the best place possible for all of us to be able to be ourselves.
Hopefully this feedback will be helpful to the team, and I would love to hear back as to what the stance of VRChat is on the feedback points provided.

After reading all your feedback, we've made some improvements that allow OSC input to set eye height to much higher/lower values than the native UI allows.
We decided to do this via OSC rather than updates to the in-app UI to keep it easy to implement, to avoid some design churn, and to avoid increased user support resulting from unknowing users inadvertently getting _way_ too big/small.
⚠️ Be warned: setting very large (>100m) or very small (<0.1m)
eyeheight
values may still break VRChat systems. ⚠️A notification will appear when you go beyond these limits. Past these points,
you are on your own!
Please do not file bugs or contact support regarding issues stemming from scaling to these extreme sizes. Please see our new documentation regarding this new OSC endpoint.
The system has hard limits (0.01m - 10,000m), and it still respects limitations set by the world either by Udon or via the world tag.
This feature is currently available in the 2026.2.1 Open Beta and we hope to release it to Live this week.

Thank you for listening, but it would have taken even less effort to have no limit... just saying

Spooky-Kitty While nice and all, but bare in mind 10k meters and you're passed most camera clipping range limits anyways. I'm all for unlimited size and all, but there is still a technical limitation to consider.

Thank you very much!

At least From my perspective, this sounds like a good solution for all involved, thank you for this!
I will note that the doccumentation link you gave doesn't appear to work however, but the link ( https://docs.vrchat.com/docs/osc-avatar-scaling ) does work

Tupper - VRChat Head of Community Thank you! This feature is exactly what we were seeking as a solution. We're grateful for the consideration, it's fantastic to see the the team is solution-oriented with these things <3

If this bug has to be fixed, can we get a avatar scaling rework? Relax the limits (maybe by allowing us to set the range in settings as an advanced option), fix clipping and limb bending at small scale (<20cm), fix scale sync issues when below 10cm or above 100m, configurable scaling transitions, configurable scaling limits for group instances, being able to hold players (that is actually synced properly and works in every world where it's not blocked), properly scaled collision bean (as an advanced option), etc.

I really hope we can have more tools in the future involving scaling tbh. I just think it would be fun for interactions with others, or I've always wanted to have a mushroom that you can eat to have a little mario growth animation lol
Debrisfield
TheDapperSaint Being able to just put a blanket contact receiver to drive an animation for scaling like you already see with SizeOSC but as a natively supported feature could be so sick.

I just wanted to say, the loss of these scaling systems affects more than just the people who use extreme sizes. Myself, when in private instances I tend to chill around at 7.5m to 16.5m and I enjoy taking fun perspective photos at these sizes (and sometimes larger up to 130m which the menu still works at) or just hanging out with other people who enjoy it. But unfortunately aside from in a small handful of worlds the only means to attain those sizes easily was with these scalers that are now being broken, and without anything to replace them one of the main things that brought me joy and more importantly companionship in vrchat will be gone.
It felt so nice to find vrchat and finally be able to bring my character to life including her ability to change her size at will between a normal sized dog and a towering giant, and finding other people through the community that uses these scalers who appreciated my character and myself felt even better. I struggle socially due to my neurodivergence but the ability to become extremely large or small gave me something unique that I could connect with people over, but without the scalers that might disappear. I honestly can not express the heartbreak this loss brings me, and I simply ask that these suggestions being made by others are considered and a compromise be made so this part of what makes vrchat so great for many isn't lost.
This is about more than just avatar scale for me and I'm sure many others too, it's about the community that was built around the shared identities of being (or enjoying others being) extremely large or small size, and in loosing the ability to reach those sizes we are also loosing that community and identity expression.

Hello. I'm using a translation tool to create this text. I apologize if there are any awkward expressions.
I would also like to cast my vote for this opinion.
A large part of the reason I play VRChat is the ability for people to freely change the size of their avatars. A range of 0.1m to 5m, or even 100m, simply isn't enough for us.
The ability to freely change avatar scales with friends and laugh together in VR space is one of the wonderful aspects of VRChat.
Removing this feature would mean losing our ability to laugh together.
I believe that if creators of worlds restrict avatar scale changes when uploading their worlds, it would reduce problems in public spaces.
Please don't take away this wonderful avatar scaling feature and our space for laughter.

i completly agree with you, it stands reason if worlds can have such option this option should be open for players too, and yes as for many others its one of selling points for me as well when it comes to playing vrchat. Dont give up

I'm echoing a lot of other users, the scaling features are a primary selling point for me recommending VR chat to people, and without it it's hard for me to be the character I want to be on there in social settings, it'd been an important one for me and while there's stuff I'd want better (more user interactivity, help with communicating in voice at extreme scales) there's not really a lot I can think of that'd I'd be willing to give up for the broken version we had.
And also outsizing the limits of worlds, beyond anything that would be reasonably allowed in a quality control sense, WAS really fun. I love being so big I can't actually see the map anymore, and that nobody else can see me. That's a feature I'd love to play with more than something that shouldn't exist.

Howdy, many of us arrived in vrchat for something that can only exist in VR. It was great to see the tools have been created like the Avatar Scaling and the worlds that rely on specifically players having a avatar scalar. I suppose those worlds will now be a relic that we can show new people what once was. It can exist, it did exist, it is just suppressed.
Avatar Scaling unlocked branching out to the many worlds of vrchat and finding out the many other things vrchat had to offer VS Just staying in the small number of worlds that had it built in.
The game may be a shell of its former self after this update. All I can say is hopefully Avatar Scaling will exist again here or in future VR and I wish that I got in earlier so I could have experienced it longer.
