This is a genuine privacy risk. I've been listening in on Persona for a while now, and the general consensus is that Persona is not to be trusted with your biometric data.

Discord issued a press release about how they are no longer working with Persona.

I hope VRChat staff reads the whole thing and understand that this is the type of thing we hope VRChat can also consider.

So I think many many folks have brought up good points about the morality of using Persona, its links, its data breaches, etc. I (maybe blindly) believe that VRChat is not receiving any of that personal data Persona may be holding but I do agree that continuing to use Persona is wrong morally....my argument here though won't be about that though but purely financially

There is a hope to continue the push for using 18+ instances for groups and services that participate in NSFW activities, especially your known biggest event each year in Furallity. I have already seen several individuals refuse to now Verify (aka buy a month of premium TOOO verify) because of the recent news, and I a sure I am not the only one that has witnessed that.

I totally understand the requirements you face with different nations and states pushing the ID verification, which is why we are not asking for removal. Switching providers though does show you will not stand with those ties that have been shown with Persona though the leaks, and on the flip side continuing to support them may in the long run implicate you as a participant of similar practices regardless of the validity of it.

I do not know what the contract looks like or if there is some break clause, but even a public message of "hey we are looking for a new provider for when our contract runs up" I think would go a long way in dissuading worries and such brewing in your userbase due to the worrying things that have sprouted from this 3rd party provider.
