I only use it on the desktop, but I will make this proposal as full tracking friends have taken troublesome steps to comply with the world's specifications.
Can I switch between full tracking, VR, desktop mode in the menu?
By allowing them to switch, friends can quickly unify the environment and play the game world.
Or quickly respond to the world's gimmicks that can not be handled with full tracking.
After the controller's battery runs out, you can seamlessly switch to the desktop and enjoy the rest of the time.

This has been one of the most frustrating things about VRC, having to restart SteamVR along with VRC when my Quest battery dies or I'm just tired of VR but still wanna continue playing with friends.
It's not only about the time, if you are in a game world or one with progress and your battery dies in the middle you either have to play the whole thing from the start again to catch up to your friends or just give up on playing altogether...

Cherry․Gum are you playing with oculus link or why you need to restart everything then? Virtual Desktop i never have to restart in that case when battery dies. I just charge and can go right back in where i left.

Normally VRChat takes a very long time to launch. After I am tired of a long time in VR, I still want to stay with my friends. So if switching between VR and desktop can be done, it would be a very nice upgrade for the game.

When I'm talking with friends in desktop mode and one friend say "I found very beautiful world, let's go there together", we often have to exit VRChat to switch to VR mode in order to enjoy the world to the fullest.
I think that exiting during this switchover can significantly damage the UX.
In such situations, I would be very happy if it is possible to switch to VR mode without exiting the VRChat, so I made this proposal.
Specifically, it would be great to be able to operate the system like desktop mode even when it is in VR mode.

I want way to switch Desktop mode and VR mode seamlessly, just as switching avatar; no quitting application nor rejoining.

5 years later with the upgrade to unity 2022 will this now be more easily possible to add to VRChat? If you launch VRChat with SteamVR open, being able to switch between desktop inputs <> VR inputs would be amazing! Not having to rejoin populated group queues if you started in desktop and wanted to switch to VR without re-opening the game and wait in line!

Someone gave some reason behind not doing at the moment when chat.
(These are just copy and paste from conversasion earlier.)
There is chance that may happen in later version of unity with XR management system but not yet been a thing at this time.
- VRAM issue (Biggest issue)
Can't control the VRAM so once you switch to vr from desktop, there's a good non-zero chance the render buffer goes to shared memory and you have a slideshow.
- IK issue
At the moment, IK not handle well on changing between Desktop and FBT VR.
For IK issue, maybe need new event for it to detect it or force reset avatar kind.
But VRAM matter, there is no solution at this time to dealing with it.
