Allowing a user to select this and have all nearby players default to their PUBLIC model, would be cool (client side only of course). For younger users who dont wanna see all the... um, everything but still want to interact and chat. And Streamers who may want to have a clean stream for a moment while they AFK or something.
- This could also be useful on a per player basis. Select a player and force their model to be defaulted. Sometimes you dont want to block someone (because you want to still talk to them), but their model is offensive. Could also help with performance issues if you make a high poly model default to a PUBLIC on with less verts.
- Also useful for professional uses, like business meetings in VR, or virtual conventions. No need for models, just voice and presence.

It'd be good to have this toggle on and off based of radius so that raiding models from spawn cant affect you from across the map

That would create complications of avatar interactions, especially those who are of a different scale. Hand positions would not match, either on one viewer or both. It would not match up. Viewer of the player who sets the option would see someone who normally has a taller avatar reaching down and not where they are pointing OR the hands would be reaching up, and would not be placed properly. If anything it should default to a generic, non-pose avatar.
If you want a business meeting, you could either request all people participating to use a professional avatar or be removed. No need for that option. Honestly though, VRchat might not be the best place to have such a meeting.
And while I do agree there are some avatars that... have gotten out of hand, it would be nice to block that avatar's ID so it won't be seen. But as someone who values appearance and quite prideful of the work I have done, I would hate that people could just turn me off "eww furry" but... then again, people like that probably aren't worth talking to.
I guess I should say, I am on the fence with this idea... because I could see it's use for performance, especially in places where there's an event, and removing certain avatars... but at the same time, I'm more upset at players who purposefully use offensive avatars and creating a need for such a function to need creation...
