[1621] need tooltips around the pronouns field
naqtn
The need to show one's pronouns in the profile depends on society or language culture. At least in Japan today, that isn't widely known.
As a volunteer UI translator, I want tooltips to explain what this field is for. I'm afraid that people will abandon their original purpose and misuse it.
The most straightforward implementation would be on the "Edit Profile" screen before selecting the pronouns options (see attached image).

I argree.
I believe this might be used not strictly to pronouns only.
But in any similar way.
Also, pronouns is not just a hint on how to refer person in the speech, but implicit way to point out gender. In cultures with no strong pronouns, ppl can go straight up "I am a boy", "I am a catgirl" there lmao
And also, even a lot of English users probably going to put something else there, to point something else about their personality.
And so, for example, Japanese ppl can also put latin transliteration of their name into the field or short nickname.
This is OK and these ideas should be hinted in tooltips.
And must be pointed out the whole purpose of this is to be shown on nameplate for everyone around.

kawashirov Although I agree that many users would use this field for alternate uses, rather then the intended purpose, I believe having the official UI suggest alternative uses to the pronouns field might not be suitable in this case. Suggestions of alternate uses might lead to confusion for some users, especially when some cultures will be less aware of the idea of preferred pronouns.
Furthermore, If the official UI states alternate uses for the pronouns field, some users who care about their pronouns might feel uncomfortable.
Current industry standard maintain distinct fields for pronouns and pronunciation for the above reasons, and I believe this should be followed for VRChat. I'm not creating a motion to make a pronunciation field, I dont think it's really necessary, but merging pronunciation into the pronouns field might not be a good decision.
