[1912] Separate keyboard and input field is annoying.
needs more information
TummyTime
Having the input field and keyboard as separate things is an interesting choice.
I think it would be way better if the input field would be attached on top of the keyboard. Why? Right now when using the chat box for example, you get this huge bar in front of you that is the input field. Which you can't move. And you need to find a comfortable spot for the keyboard above or under it. Or you can move in space to get out of the input fields face a bit. It's needed since you need to have enough clearance for you to be able to hit the keyboard with your laser.
So, please connect them into one thing. You probably use both at the same time.

The "docking" functionality of the keyboard should address the main ask here. In the latest open-beta version, are there any concerns regarding this specifically left?
Blue_Phoenix23
_tau_ i personally don't think they should have changed the keyboard to begin with. There weren't any complaints originally with it.
Maybe have an option to choose if you want a separate or connected keyboard?

_tau_ there is still the issue that you cant move the whole thing by grabbing the keyboard so its still annoying to move it around as you have to grab the relatively small (and often blocked by the keyboard) text field

_tau_ i would also like to see more of the chatbox interface grabbable, including an option to permamently dock the keyboard with an unlocked textbox. for me the older layout was very forgiving when lying down and i could reliably grab it from the default position without needing to look for the chatbox visually. much more difficult to do with the current version, and not really practical with the possibility of only grabbing the keyboard now. i often need to move my head to find the right spot to find the grabbable area for the textbox.
being able to lock it now is an improvement, but sometimes i find it spawns in weird orientations when locked (this was also the case with the older chatbox, hence my preference for keeping it unlocked & grabbing, blindly grabbing the massive selectable area that spawned in a predictable location was quicker and more convienent than unlocking, grabbing, relocking)

_tau_ yes, here for someone who is disabled: https://feedback.vrchat.com/feature-requests/p/1912-revert-the-chatbox-textbox

I would say it's almost there. The docking totally helps with it feeling better. I personally don't mind it much now.
The quirks it has right now is the following.
* The keyboard is not centered under the input field when it docks, which is a nit pick of mine.
* When the keyboard is placed in some spots. It docks over the input field when you grab the input field, which is a bit weird. It should probably not dock, or place under the field in this case.
* When the keyboard docks it's a bit closer to the player than the input.
The wish I have would probably be that the lock would lock the keyboard position in relation to the input so you can move them as one unit, no matter what you grab. Rather than locking the input field position and letting you move the keyboard around freely, which is the current beaviour.

_tau_ I tried the new changes and it's better than what it was. Some of the things I was feeling is pretty much what @TummyTime and @kokibytes wrote.
Could just have it so there's a button beside the lock that will just autodock and keep the whole unit as one similar to how it used to be.

The new setup is so bad i had to revert to stable cause even on latest build it always spawns so far away and spend forever trying to pull the keyboard close (the text box is close) just to need to do it again seconds later if i close the chat. My avi is always around 35 tall, so small… the split version is just bad im terrified of the thing now since as a mute i can not communicate effectively and people are walking away from me during the struggle.

my quick menu stays up when editing an invite decline reply, and then i can only type and click things with one hand. bad bad bad.

the state of the textbox is definitely not a "new feature bad" type of issue. it's missing several core features that the old one had, and functionally works completely differently now.
ignoring the feature regression and accessibilities issues, new feature bad, feels like the textbox input was directly ported from the desktop version without any accomdation for vr use, and the on screen keyboard feels like a placeholder ui element. it doesnt match the style of all other menu elements and i thought it was the quest keyboard when i first saw it
Miss Widgey
I've had to search for the keyboard multiple times when trying to input things in a text field and many times it's either behind the main menu or a meter off to the side. I am perplexed as to why this UI decision was made and I hope these are just bugs that will be addressed.
Tamara
Another issue I've run into is accidentally clicking next to the keyboard and the keyboard closing itself. Then I have to click back on the input box, which usually puts the cursor at the second last position instead of at the end...
I also really miss having the numbers at the top on the main keyboard, I use those a lot
Edit: the keyboard has appeared behind the big menu multiple times now when trying to search worlds/users or change status, have to drag it in front before i can type lol

> type on keyboard that doesnt resemble a keyboard in terms of key pattern and has way too much space inbetween keys
> turn 90 degrees to the right, respawn chatbox/keyboard
> Keyboard suddenly in my right cheek, bring down infront of me
> turn another 90 degrees to the right, keyboard suddenly 10 feet away infront of me
> turn another 90 degrees, keyboard suddenly right infront of me, chatbox nowhere to be seen(behind the keyboard)
What the fuck who coded this? The whole UI overhaul thats been going on has been nothing but a travesty

Hopefully this is reverted ASAP. I cannot imagine what thought process resulted in this change.

From a laying/disabled perspective, this change has made things harder to access.
Livvydoodlez
This needs to be reverted. I literally cannot speak to anyone anymore because I'm disabled and have to laydown. I either have to blindly type and accept whatever gibberish comes out of my text box, or force to be stood up so I can communicate with a friend.
You can't even search settings because VRChat still hasn't figured out that the keyboard needs to always be on top... INCLUDING THE KEYS. If the system hud is behind the keyboard (which it needs to be to search settings), then half the keyboard doesn't work because the contact points are BEHIND the system hud.
This is the worst UI change ever.
