It would be very helpful for the growth of VRChat on desktop if the new third-person camera allowed us to move the mouse freely, click, and interact with world objects without the camera constantly following the cursor.
A simple toggle to decouple the camera from mouse movement in third-person mode, along with a scripting API option, would open a lot of possibilities for creators. We could finally make proper third-person experiences for desktop players: action games, platformers, RPG-style worlds, minigames with UI interaction, and more, all with intuitive mouse control instead of constant camera movement.
This would make VRChat much more attractive and accessible to new players who don’t own a VR headset and are looking for “classic” third-person gameplay on desktop. At the same time, these games and worlds would still work perfectly fine in first-person for VR users, so creators wouldn’t have to maintain two completely separate versions of their content.
In short, giving us a way to temporarily disable mouse-driven camera movement in third-person — both as a user toggle and as a scripting feature — would greatly improve the desktop experience and encourage many more creators to build rich, game-like worlds for VRChat.
